21.05.08 -  'Listen to Radio 2?'

Make a date with Radio 2 every Monday at 11.30pm (or use the 'Listen Again Facility'!) until the 9th June 2008...'cos' we're on it!

Brassed Off ! star Stephen Tompkinson presents a four-part celebration of the UK's long love affair with brass band music. Maggie & Jane went to BBC Northampton and recorded some bits 'n' pieces last month. We're definitely on Programme two (26th May) and maybe on Programme three (2nd June).

Use the link below to link to the 'good ol' BBC and for more information.

And...thank you to everyone who has been sending me photo's, links and videos of our Whit Friday adventure. I will be updating the website in the next few days - keep 'em comming! But watch out for 'Hairy Fred'....!

04.05.08 - 'Packed And Ready To Go'?

Thanks to Shaun Paggington and First Brass Ltd - for our new 'pink' music stands will travel in style! Shaun has kindly given us stand cases for our trip to Scotland AND he has made a cash donation to the cause too!

See also our 'supporters' page - thank you again Shaun!

01.05.08 - 'Read All About It!'

We're featured in this month's issue of the 'Alyth Voice'. 'Click' the crest (left) to see...

...then follow the link on the right hand side of the
'Voice' page!

01.05.08 - 'Maggie's Guestbook entry (this WAS a wonderful opportunity....AND a funny story too!)'

Maggie wrote:

"We (Jane & Maggie) have just got home from a great trip to London and to the House of Lords.

We had received an invitation from Baroness Foulkes of Plymouth to attend a reception given by the Breast Cancer Campaign and felt very honoured to be there and listen and talk to some of the scientists, fund raisers, volunteers and sufferers who are connected to the charity in some way.

We were also very proud to be able to represent everyone who makes "Boobs & Brass" and tell our story of what you have all achieved and what we are doing in the future. We have even suggested that we take the whole band next year to entertain on the verandah!!

Thank you all for giving us this opportunity - it is a fantastic team effort and full of surprises - we never know what the next phone call is going to bring!!

Well, we are absolutely exhausted....

...we got a bit wet on the way there, had our picture taken for security reasons when entering the House, couldn't find our way out - Jane having tried all the doors (including the one to the electric boxes!!) nearly collapsed with laughter over something we cannot mention, took the Piccadilly Line instead of the Victoria Line, nearly missed the train 'cos' Jane's shoes were crippling her, then she couldn't get her shoes back on when we got to Kettering 'cos' her feet had swollen up - so had to walk to the car barefooted, ended up with a bacon butty on the train instead of the meal we thought we were having on the way home AND my umbrella almost had a trip to Sheffield!!

Apart from that - we had a fantastic day!!"

Sorry, Jane - hope your feet are back to normal! AND we wonder what it was that had you collapsing with laughter over 'something we cannot mention'! Perhaps all will be revealed at the 'Post-Whit Friday' party!

05.04.08 - 'Brighouse Tickets' - if you want 'em...

05.01.08 - Happy New Year EVERYONE.

A few things to tell you about, first, just to say the website has been 'top and tailed' to reflect the new year - plus a few additions to the gallery and media pages.

Secondly, as reported by Maggie in the guestbook, Mairi and her 'Knits' (also see the  gallery page) reached their target and raised £400 - a brilliant achievement. In addition - Steve Alexander (Sailor Steve), Brian Chantrell, Dave Hooton, Gareth Haynes, Alan Nichols, along with Maggie and Jane played carols at the Rushden Golf Club Dinner. The collection - £190 - was donated to the "Boobs & Brass" charities. Thanks to Steve for asking us and for organising everything.

Possibly saving the best news 'til last. You may remember that last year during the Whit Friday Marches, Morag, our bass player was unable to come along with us. She was very upset and thought she was letting us all down. Well....the reason being - she had just discovered she was pregnant and advised that it was not a good idea to be marching round carrying a hefty bass!!!!

Here is the result - Fraser, born 3rd December 2007 at 02.19 hrs, coming in at 6lb 13oz.

Boobs & Brass would all like to wish her, her husband and baby Fraser well and hope that this year Morag will be back playing with us again - she informs us that she has already purchased a harness to strap him to the bass....but perhaps pink won't be his colour!!!
