Boobs
and Brass
can't believe that a whole year has passed
since our first charity concert in September 2006. What Boobs
and Brass
have achieved,
in just 12 months, continues to amaze.
Therefore, it must have been
with some trepidation that Jane
and Maggie took the decision to continue with their
little venture (!) and stage another concert. They needn't have worried.
With Betty
Anderson conducting, and continuing
with the 'all-girl' theme, the evening was a
triumph. The band selected a 'popular' programme and played to a full house. Possible
highlights being Trombone soloist -
the rinky dink Pink Panther and Mairi Addy.
Mairi, exchanging her trombone for an accordion, played some jigs and a
reel and was accompanied by the band. The event was professionally compéred
(as last year) by Carolyn Oldershaw.
Jane's
daughter, Rachael, wrote to many local businesses/organisations for
raffle prizes and this, including donations from individuals, meant there were
58 raffle prizes in all.
The programme notes
mentioned our little sojourn to the north and the Whit Friday Marches.
Originally, it was meant to be a 'bit of a giggle' and a day out - but we were
something of a sensation, rubbing shoulders with some of the best (male) bands
in the country and we have a trophy to prove it! We were the first 'all-female'
band to enter in the contests' 120 year history - so thank you to Jonathan
Mott for guiding us, musically, through the day.
None of the hard work, fun
and professionalism could have been achieved with out a lot of help from local
and national companies, friends, followers (including our audiences), family and
players - to which we are always grateful.
However, special thanks
were made to:
-
First Choice Holidays
for the uniforms donated this year.
-
Ridgemount
Technologies for the stand banners - used for the first time.
-
Shaun Paggington and First Brass
Ltd.
-
Dave Goswell and Pro-Digital Systems
Ltd.
-
Kettering Parish Church for the
superb venue.
-
Betty Anderson
and Carolyn Oldershaw.
-
Jonathan Mott for
conducting Glemdene.
-
Brian Sanders
for his musical arrangements.
-
Local media for their coverage of
the event.
-
Kettering Tourist Office for ticket
sales.
-
Rushden
Windmill Band for their rehearsal facilities.
Please look at the supporters
page for a full list and web 'links' of those who have helped us.
Following this October concert ‘Boobs
& Brass’ were able to send £1800 to each of our chosen charities;
the Breast Cancer Campaign and the Opthalmic Ward at Kettering Hospital.

As promised
here are some photographs (thanks to Jane)
- the originals were very dark, so I had to 'doctor' them a little.....
Jane in 'serious'
discussion with the trombones - whilst Betty sneaks
in from the right. AND...is that a 'ghostly orb' in the picture - perhaps we
should contact 'Most Haunted'?
Another 'back' view showing off the percussion - and
look the there are now two 'orbs', but not so bright - maybe they've had
enough?
Betty means
business - Fiona (Euphonium)
looks worried!
Happy-ish cornets (L - R), Katie,
Michelle, Cynthia, Helen,
Shirley and Keeley.
Serious work - and no 'orbs'!
And front row cornets and horns....hard at it!
Our 'very special guest soloist' - 'the
Pink Panther'...
 ...hopefully
he will visit us again - sometime soon!
(Panther pictures courtesy of Carol
Limbert and her mobile 'phone!). Thanks
to EVERYONE who helped to make the evening a success...here's to the next one!
