Contest Board at Delph 2007.Whit Friday Marches: Personnel List, Information, Pictures and Video!

1st/2nd June 2007.

(Look Out World...we've arrived!)

Where to start....the Whit Friday Marches are just about THE greatest way to spend a Friday evening with the girls (and boys dressed in sailor suits!). The 'Guestbook' messages really do say it all.

The 'thank you's' are almost endless - Jane and Alan, Maggie and Keith, Jonathan and Steve (our honorary Boobs!), (Band Sergeant) Kay, our 'Supporters Club and our sponsors....and, well, really EVERYONE who made the day so special and a HUGE success.

Waiting for the off - at the Windmill Club, Rushden, about 9.30.am.

I am sure we will all have many wonderful memories - maybe the smiles on peoples' faces when they saw our coach or the rapturous reception we received everywhere we went - particularly at Delph! Incidentally, in the few days after the contest, the web site had over 1000 'hits' (yep - hits not t**s!).

The Whit Friday Marches certainly deserve their accolade as:

'The Greatest Free Show On Earth'

Whilst we didn't really go for the prizes - we did win an entertainment prize at Greenfield (a tie with Emley Band) and the deportment prize at Greenacres - see below. We also won a special prize of £50 for venturing into such a 'male' dominated event!...it all adds to the fund raising!

I hope to collect photo's/videos to put on this page - use the links below to view:

We also made the 'front cover' of the July/August 2007 issue of Brass Band World. It shows us marching at Uppermill.

The link will open in a new window as a (largish) 'jpg' image - it is the original sheet and some of the quality has been lost (...if there was any in the first place!). You should be able to 'decipher' the writing.

Also - be warned it is in the 'original' adjudicators handwriting - and that is akin to doctors' handwriting!

If you have any photo's/video please forward them to me - EVERYTHING will be considered for publication!

Maggie was even quoted in the Oldham Evening Chronicle (04.06.07):

'Brass is in tune' by Ken Bennett.

"Some of the biggest and smallest names in brass band music turned out to entertain the happy, appreciative audiences.

Legendary Black Dyke, making their first appearance on the circuit for two years, wooed the crowds along with school, junior bands and local favourites. And, for the first time in the contests history, an all-woman band made their debut appearance on the circuit.

Boobs and Brass, dressed in vivid pink jackets and smart black trousers, received a rapturous welcome with their introductory tune, “All the nice girls love a sailor” because heading up the band was their only male musician, a drummer, dressed in a smart white sailors uniform.

Later, band leader and cornet player, Margaret Betts, said: “We have been knocked out by the welcome. Everyone has been so generous. We didn’t ask for donations at all but in all, they gave us more than £450."....
